Red Foxes Take Down Harvard 12-10, Fall To #20 Brown At ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Marist water polo team defeated Harvard 12-10 in its first game at the ECAC Championships at Princeton Saturday, but lost to #20 Brown 9-5 in the winner's bracket semifinals later that night. Senior Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) led the Red Foxes with four goals against Harvard, with Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Emily St. Omer Roy (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) each scoring two goals against Brown. The Red Foxes are now 4-6 on the season.

The Red Foxes led 3-2 after the first quarter in its game against Harvard. Marist then pulled away with four goals in the second to take a 7-3 halftime lead. The Crimson then scored three in the third quarter to get within three, 9-7. Harvard scored four in the fourth quarter, but the Red Foxes tallied three goals for the 12-10 win. Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.) each scored a pair of goals in the win. Rampton had two assists and two steals, while Sunday drew four ejections and one five-meter penalty shot. Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) made five saves in the win and had an assist.

Following its win over the Crimson, Marist took on the #20 Brown Bears. Brown shut out the Red Foxes 2-0 in the first quarter, then scored four goals in the second quarter to take a 6-2 halftime lead. Marist outscored the Bears 2-1 in the third to get within three, 7-4, after the third quarter. Brown then returned the favor, outscoring the Red Foxes 2-1 in the fourth for the 9-5 win. Schroeder also scored in the game for Marist. Swartz had five steals, while Getchius had four saves and two steals.

Marist will take on Maryland Sunday at 1 p.m. in the third-place game of the ECAC Championships. The Red Foxes took down the Terrapins 5-4 on Feb. 14 at the Bucknell Invitational when Maryland was ranked 20th in the nation.
