Red Foxes Drop Home Contest To Yale Bulldogs 9-8

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team dropped a one goal contest to the Yale Bulldogs, 9-8, on Saturday at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. Freshman Amanda Tuck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) led Marist with three goals while Ariel Kramer (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Jori Procaccini (Long Valley, N.J.) each notched two goals.

Yale's Devon Rhodes' seventh goal on the season opened the scoring when she put a shot past Marist sophomore goalie Alyssa Littin (Coronado, Calif.) 2:30 into the contest. 35 seconds later, following the draw control, Tuck matched Rhodes to tie the score at 1-1.

Marist took its first lead of the contest, 2-1, with a free-position goal from Procaccini at the 20:13 mark. After Rhodes notched her second of the game to tie the score at 2-2, a yellow card assessed to Marist's Arielle Urban Hillsborough, N.J.) led to the Bulldog's Winnie Call notching her only goal of the contest.

After Yale extended its lead to 4-2 with a free-position goal from Myra Trivellas, Procaccini and Kramer notched back-to-back goals with 2:46 and 1:10 remaining to tie the game at 4-4 going into the second half.

For the half, Yale outshot Marist 12-11 and grabbed 11 groundballs to the Red Foxes' 10. The Red Foxes were successful on all five of their clear attempts while Yale cleared six of its nine attempts successfully. Bulldog's goalie Whitney Quackenbush made six saves while Littin stopped two Yale shots to hold Yale to four goals.

To start the second half, Tuck notched her second goal of the game with 26:49 remaining to give Marist a 5-4 lead. Yale retook the lead on back-to-back goals from Jessica Sturgill and Rhodes; however, Tuck recorded her final goal of the game off the ensuing draw control to re-tie the score at 6-6.

Yale temporarily took control on goals by Rhodes and Trivellas for an 8-6 lead before back-to-back goals from Marist senior Erin Wilson (Ada, Mich.) and Kramer evened the score, 8-8, with 7:45 remaining.

After Rhodes secured the draw control that followed Kramer's second goal, Trivellas gave Yale the lead for good with 6:56 left to earn the second win for the Bulldogs on the season. The Red Foxes drop to 2-2 on the year with the loss.

For the contest, the Red Foxes outshot Yale 24-21 and won 12 of the 19 draw controls. Yale earned an 18-16 advantage on groundballs. Each team committed 13 turnovers. Quackenbush finished with 10 saves on the day while Littin stopped five shots.

For their next contest, the Red Foxes travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the University of Florida on Wednesday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m.
