KISSIMMEE, FLA. - Trailing 4-1 as it headed into the final half inning of the contest, the Marist softball team pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but came up one run short, as the Red Foxes fell 4-3 to the Columbia Lions at the 2010 Rebel Spring Games. The Red Foxes fell to 1-9 during the 2010 season.
In the seventh, sophomore Ashley Corriss (Sayville, N.Y.) led off the inning with an infield hit. She advanced as far as third base after a throwing error by the Columbia shortstop. Corriss scored on a Megan Lamoureux (Woonsocket, R.I.) as she singled through the left side. The Lions lead was cut to two with no outs in the seventh.
After a fielder's choice by Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.), freshman Danielle Koltz (Chenango Valley, N.Y.) cut the Columbia lead to one with a RBI base hit on a line drive back to the pitcher. Koltz drove in Lamoureux with her first collegiate RBI. The rally was silenced as sophomore Lindsay Durant (Martinsville, N.J.) lined out to the second baseman to end the game.
Columbia jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the halfway point in the contests. Marist cut the lead to three in the bottom of the fourth after Koltz led off the inning with a walk. She scored on an RBI single by senior Alanna Woody (Clinton Corners, N.Y.).
Corriss, Lamoureux and Koltz totaled two hits apiece. Corriss has reached base in the last six games, while Lamoureux tallied the only extra base hit, a double in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lions improved to 1-9 and have won the last three matchups against the Red Foxes.
