Women's Lacrosse Continue Winning Ways With 10-8 Victory Over Le Moyne

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist won their second consecutive game to open the 2010 season on Saturday as it defeated Le Moyne 10-8 at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes were lead by freshman midfielder Amanda Tuck's (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) second consecutive hat trick of to start the year. Tuck led the Red Foxes with three goals in the game.

Senior midfielder Lauren Ciccarello (Wantagh, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Lindsay Rinefierd (Smithtown, N.Y.) and sophomore attackers Ariel Kramer (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Shannon Haas (Farmingdale, N.Y.) all scored goals in the contest. Classmate Kelly Condon (Abington, Pa.) led the Red Foxes with three assists on the day.

Marist came out of the gates quickly in the first half, and scored the first goal of the game on a free position shot from Rinefierd 33 seconds in. However, Le Moyne quickly responded with a goal from sophomore midfielder Brittany Brigandi 3:37 into the stanza to tie the score at one.

Ciccarello scored twice for the Red Foxes in the half while Kramer and Tuck also netted goals for Marist. The teams went into the locker rooms deadlocked at five.

Marist came out strong in the beginning of the second half scoring two quick goals to build a 7-5 lead on two goals from Tuck, who completed her second consecutive hat trick approximately two minutes into the half.

Le Moyne would not back down as they rallied to score the next two goals to tie the game at seven with 19 minutes left in the game. Marist would respond quickly with consecutive goals from Procaccini and Haas to cap the Red Foxes 3-0 run from 16:52 to 22:06. Le Moyne could not recover from Marist's final offensive onslaught and could only manage a consolation goal by Gabrielle Kamide in the final minute of the game.

Le Moyne outshot Marist on the day 31-21, but the Red Foxes were dominant in every other aspect of the game. Marist was 14-for-15 on clears, while Le Moyne was only 11-for-14. The Red Foxes scooped up 22 ground balls to the Dolphins' 16.

Sophomore Alyssa Littin (Coronado, Calif.) picked up her second win of the season in goal for Marist. She made 10 saves on the afternoon.

The last time Marist met Le Moyne was in the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, where the Dolphins beat the Red Foxes 14-13 in overtime at Mazzella Field in New Rochelle, N.Y.

The Red Foxes next travel to Storrs, Conn., to take on UCONN on Wednesday, March 10 at 3 p.m.
