POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team wrapped up its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule on Friday night with a 13-9 loss to the first-place Fairfield Stags at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes finish MAAC play with a 4-2 record, wrapping up the third seed in next weekend's MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship hosted at Marist.
Senior midfield Morgan Dillon (Freeport, N.Y.) led all scorers with four goals. Prior to the game, Dillon along with fellow classmates Madeline Schuck (Cockeysville, Md.), Erin Wilson (Ada, Mich.), Lauren Ciccarello (Wantagh, N.Y.), and Lindsay Rinefierd (Smithtown, N.Y.) were honored with a special Senior Night ceremony.
Fairfield (11-4, 5-0 MAAC) took a 3-1 lead 7:31 into the game, getting goals from Brittany Bare, Caitlin Young, and Kristen Coleman. Marist (7-7, 4-2 MAAC) cut the lead to one, 4-3, with 13:16 to go in the half on goals by Dillon and Ariel Kramer (Syracuse, N.Y.). The Stags then grew the lead to three with 6:22 remaining in the first as Young and Katie MacKay put Fairfield ahead 6-3. The Red Foxes cut the lead to two, 6-4, at the 1:59 mark when Rinefierd assisted on a Jori Procaccini (Long Valley, N.J.) goal. Fairfield took a three-goal lead into halftime when Young scored her third with 59 seconds remaining, making the score 7-4.
The Stags led 8-4 early in the second half when Ciccarello and Shannon Haas (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit in half, 8-6, with 20:15 to go in the game. This was as close as Marist got. Fairfield scored three straight goals over the next 8:43, with a Coleman goal putting the Stags ahead 11-6 with 11:32 to go. Marist cut the lead to three late in the half on goals by Dillon and Amanda Tuck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), but Fairfield tacked on two more goals to take a 13-8 lead.
Fairfield outshot Marist 34-25 for the game, and also had a 17-12 edge in ground balls. Marist had a 14-10 advantage in draw controls, with Wilson collecting five of those for the Red Foxes. Fairfield goalie Katie Keenan made 12 saves for the Stags. Ashley Casiano (South Windsor, Conn.) made 10 saves off the bench for Marist.
Marist wraps up the regular season with on Monday, April 26 with a 4 p.m. game at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field against Binghamton.
