Amanda Tuck Scores Game-Winning Goal In Overtime As Marist Defeats Binghamton 12-11

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team closed the 2010 regular season Monday afternoon with a 12-11 win over the Binghamton Bearcats at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. Freshman midfielder Amanda Tuck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal with 27 seconds remaining in the first overtime period. Sophomore attack Kelly Condon (Roslyn, Pa.) led all scorers with five goals.

Marist (8-7) got on the scoreboard first as Erin Wilson (Ada, Mich.) assisted on a Lauren Cobb (Jamesville, N.Y.) goal. Condon then scored 33 seconds later to give Marist a 4-3 lead.

The Bearcats tied the game 4-4 at the 9:38 mark on a Katherine Hunsberger goal. Lindsay Rinefierd (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals for Marist, giving the Red Foxes a 6-4 lead with 6:43 to go in the half. Beth Moore then scored 36 seconds later to get Binghamton within a goal, 6-5. The score would stay that way through halftime.

Marist increased the lead to three, 8-5, 3:12 into the second half on goals by Condon and Rinefierd. The Red Foxes led 9-6 when Moore scored two goals in a span of 2:02 to get Binghamton within a goal, 9-8, with 18:40 left in regulation. Marist went back up by two, 10-8, at the 10:34 mark on Condon's fourth goal of the game. The Bearcats tied the game with 7:15 to go, as goals by Kristen Stone and Ali Castiglie made the score 10-10. Condon put the Red Foxes back on top with her fifth goal of the game, which came with 4:53 to go in the game. Binghamton came back to tie the game with 1:55 remaining, as Moore scored her fourth goal of the game to make the score 11-11. Moore had a chance to win the game for the Bearcats, but her shot in the final seconds went high.

Marist won the draw control to start the first overtime, and held the ball for the majority of the period. Condon then attacked the cage late in the first session, with the ball getting knocked out of her stick from in front of the cage. Tuck then guided the loose ball past Binghamton goalie Emily Miller to put the Red Foxes ahead 12-11. The Red Foxes then won the ensuing draw control, holding the ball until the end of the first overtime. Marist then won the draw to start the second overtime, and held the ball for the entire three minutes to ensure victory.

Marist outshot Binghamton 31-27 for the game, and had 17 draw controls to the Bearcats' 10. The Red Foxes also held a 27-24 edge in ground balls. Freshman goalie Ashley Casiano (South Windsor, Conn.) made 11 saves in her first career start for the win.

The Red Foxes will next be in action at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on Friday, April 30 in the MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship. Marist enters the tournament as the third seed, and will take on second-seeded Canisius 45 minutes after the Siena/Fairfield semifinal that will take place at 4 p.m.
