POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist sophomore Ariel Kramer (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal in the Red Foxes' 12-11 win over Siena Saturday at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The game was also the women's lacrosse team's second Friends of Jaclyn Game to promote awareness of the Friends of Jaclyn foundation. Kramer notched the game-winning goal on a free position shot with 6:09 remaining the second half. Sophomore Kelly Condon (Roslyn, Pa.) led Marist with three goals and three assists.
Kramer opened the scoring for the contest off the draw control to give Marist (4-5, 1-0 MAAC) the early 1-0 lead with 29:23 remaining. The sophomore attack recorded two goals on the day.
Siena's (4-5, 0-1 MAAC) Allie Kain responded 1:15 later with her first goal on the day to even the score at 1-1. Kain led all players in goals with five for the game. Two minutes later, senior Morgan Dillon (Freeport, N.Y.) assisted on a Condon goal to put Marist ahead 2-1. Senior Erin Wilson (Ada, Mich.) followed Condon with a goal at the 25:34 mark to increase the Red Foxes' lead to 3-1.
The Saints recorded back-to-back goals from Kain and Allie Primo with 14:30 and 13:35 remaining in the first half to tie the game at 3-3. The score only remained tied for 30 seconds before Condon notched her second goal of the contest on a pass from senior Lindsay Rinefierd (Smithtown, N.Y.) to give the Red Foxes the lead, 4-3.
Marist and Siena traded goals for the remainder of the half, with the Saints outscoring Marist 3-2 over the final 9:19. Freshman Lauren Ciccarello (Wantagh, N.Y.) notched the Red Foxes' sixth goal with 3:35 remaining. However, the Saints' Erin Hepper tallied the first of her two goals on the day with 1:47 remaining to tie the score at 6-6 heading into halftime.
The Red Foxes controlled the first 10 minutes of the second half, recording four goals. Ciccarello opened the scoring at the 29:04 mark with her second of the contest. Freshman Amanda Tuck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) got in the scoring column with her first goal off a pass from Condon with 24:17 remaining. Less than one minute later, Ciccarello found the back of the net for her third goal as the Red Foxes increased their lead to 9-6. To cap off their streak of four consecutive goals, sophomore Jori Procaccini (Long Valley, N.J.) fired a pass from Condon past Saints goalie Kristin Concordia with 20:03 left, giving Marist a 10-6 lead.
Over the next 11 minutes, the Saints answered with a four goal streak of their own to re-tie the score at 10-10 with 9:01 remaining. Kain notched her fourth and fifth goals with 16:16 and 12:02 remaining to bring Siena within two goals, 10-8. After two and a half minutes of scoreless play, Primo scored her second to bring the Saints with one before Hepper notched her second of the day to tie the score at 10-10.
The Red Foxes and Saints again traded goals for the remainder of the period with Marist outscoring Siena 2-1 over the final nine minutes. Condon scored with 8:16 to go to snap the Saints' run with her third goal and sixth point to give the Red Foxes an 11-10 lead.
The Saints' Kristin McMillian tied the game at 11-11 with 7:20 left off a free-position shot. However, Kramer answered with her own free-position goal to give Marist its fourth victory on the season, 12-11.
For the game, Siena outshot Marist 29-26 and grabbed 23 groundballs to the Red Foxes' 19. Marist earned 17 draw controls to the Saints' eight. Marist sophomore goalie Alyssa Littin (Coronado, Calif.) made five saves to earn the win while Concordia made nine saves for the Saints.
The Red Foxes return to action on Friday, April 9 when it travels to western New York to take on Niagara at 7 p.m.
