Marist Men's Lacrosse Earns MAAC Tournament Berth

May 2, 2010

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- As a result of a drawing which took place just prior to 9 a.m. Sunday morning, the Marist men's lacrosse team has qualified for the 2010 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championships. The Red Foxes are the fourth seed, and will face top-seeded Siena in a semifinal match-up on Friday.

Also as a result of the draw, Manhattan secured the third seed, and will face second-seeded Mount St. Mary's in Friday's first semifinal at 4 p.m. The Red Foxes will face the Saints approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of that contest. The championships will be held at Marist's home field, Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field, with Friday's winners moving on to the championship game at noon on Sunday.

Canisius had its season come to an end as a result of the draw.

The drawing was necessitated after Marist, Manhattan and Canisius all finished the regular season with 5-3 conference records. Per MAAC rules, the first tiebreaker for three or more teams is to form a mini-league of the tied teams. Each team went 1-1 against the other two. The next step in the tiebreaker is to compare records against the team that finished first and on down. All three teams lost to Siena and Mount St. Mary's, and beat the teams that finished sixth through ninth. The third step is for the Commissioner to to break the tie with a random draw, which took place Sunday morning.

With Manhattan and Marist having qualified for the championships as a result of the draw, the Jaspers then earned the third seed by virtue of their 10-6 victory over the Red Foxes on April 28.
