ST. LOUIS - Four Marist football players - senior cornerback Jaquan Bryant (St. Albans, N.Y.), junior tight end Anthony Calcagni (Thornwood, N.Y.), junior right tackle Phede Celestin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior outside linebacker Ryan Cronan (Hampton, N.H.) - were named First Team All-Pioneer Football League (PFL), it was announced Tuesday. Additionally, junior defensive end Terrence Fede (Nyack, N.Y.) was named Second Team All-PFL.
Bryant was honored by the PFL for the third consecutive year as a defensive back, having been named to the Second Team in 2009 and Honorable Mention in 2010. He led the Red Foxes with four interceptions this season, and had five pass break-ups. Bryant led the team in solo tackles with 41, which included four stops for losses. Additionally, Bryant was named Honorable Mention as a return specialist for the second time in three years. He served as the Red Foxes' primary punt returner, and averaged 8.1 yards on 23 returns.
Calcagni enjoyed a breakout season in his first year as the Red Foxes' starting tight end. He ranked second on the team in both receptions and receiving yards with 40 and 494, respectively, and tied for the team lead with five touchdowns. In Marist's 28-10 win at Butler on Oct. 22, he had a career-high 130 receiving yards on five receptions with a touchdown.
Celestin was honored by the PFL for the second straight year, as he was named Honorable Mention last season. He moved into the starting lineup in 2010, and has started every game at right tackle for the Red Foxes each of the last two seasons.
Cronan enjoyed a breakout senior season as he led the Red Foxes in total tackles with 77. He added six tackles for losses, two sacks and two pass break-ups. His average of seven tackles per game ranked seventh in the PFL. Cronan had a career-high 12 tackles at Dayton on Sept. 17.
Fede led the Red Foxes with eight-and-a-half sacks and 16 tackles for losses. His 72 total tackles ranked second on the team, was tied for the second-best total in the PFL among defensive linemen. Fede was named PFL Co-Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against Drake on Oc. 29, when he had 11 tackles, three sacks and four stops for losses.
Six additional Red Foxes were named Honorable Mention, including senior wide receiver Kevin Fitzpatrick (Columbia, Md.), senior defensive end James Desautels (Manchester, Conn.), senior nose tackle and captain David Toriola (Jamaica, N.Y.), sophomore linebacker Paul Sakowski (Chester, N.Y.), junior safety Nick Mainiero (Croton, N.Y.) and junior kicker Jason Myers (Chula Vista, Calif.).
