Final Stats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Matching up with their second consecutive America East opponent and fourth of the year, the Marist women's lacrosse team fell to the Vermont Catamounts on Saturday afternoon by a score of 15-8. In a game filled with five three goal or more scoring streaks, the Red Foxes fell victim to Vermont's fast start and success in free-position opportunities. For the game, junior Jori Procaccini (Long Valley, N.J.) led Marist's offense with three goals scored. She was joined in the three point scoring column by fellow junior Kelly Condon (Roslyn, Pa.) who netted two and assisted on one.
The two teams traded goals to open the game with Vermont's Sydney Mas opening the scoring with a free position goal at 28:57. Marist's response was by sophomore Ashley Miller, who scored 31 seconds later. A goal by Vermont's Samantha Stern at 27:03 began a 6-0 run for the Catamounts, that lasted until 11:40. The Red Foxes responded with three goals in the final six minutes including two from Procaccini and one from freshman Jamie Romano (Kings Park, N.Y.) to cut Vermont's lead to 7-4 going into halftime.
For the half, Vermont took seven free position shots and converted on three, while Marist went one for two.
The second half began similar to the first as Mas converted a free position shot 14 seconds in. Vermont notched the next four goals as they stretched the lead to 11-4 at the 20:04 mark. Marist cut into the lead with a three goal charge from 18:24 to 12:11 to bring the score to 12-7. The Red Foxes were led by Condon's first and second goals of the day, as well as Procaccini's third. The Catamounts responded with a three goal run of their own to go ahead 15-7 with 1:56 remaining. Mas notched her fifth and sixth goals of the game during this run. Marist finished the scoring as freshman Brooke Wickham (Penn Yan, N.Y.) notched her first collegiate goal with 35 seconds left in regulation.
For the game, Vermont outshot the Red Foxes 36 to 23, as well as converted 6 of their 13 free position shots compared to Marist's 2 for 4.
Condon, Procaccini and Romano all extended their consecutive points scored streaks to 9, 7 and 7 games respectively.
The Red Foxes will next be in action on Tuesday, March 22 as they host Denver for a 4 p.m. matchup.
