EDISON, N.J. - Red-shirt Sophomore Will Griffin (Columbia, Conn.) of the Marist men's track and field team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. This is the program's first weekly conference award of the 2011 outdoor season.
Griffin turned in a record-breaking performance running against a tough field of competitors from across the nation at the 53rd annual Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Relays in Walnut, California,. He became the first Marist College track athlete in school history to break the 30-minute barrier for the 10,000-meter run with his time of 29:45.81. With his eighth place finish he easily qualifies for the IC4A Championships, and has a strong chance of earning a berth at the NCAA East Regional next month.
The track and field program will be back in action on Friday as they competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University.
