POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team kicked off a busy weekend by defeating Hofstra 7-0 at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion. The win marked Marist's second consecutive dual match victory. The Red Foxes improved to 10-3 overall.
"Although we won 7-0, I thought the doubles play was highly contested," Marist coach Rhys Hobbs (Sydney, Australia) played at first doubles with Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland)."
The senior duo of Hobbs and Pisecky defeated Chris Damion and Adrien Bailly, 8-6. At second doubles, the scorching freshmen pair of Joris Van Eck (Ospel, Netherlands) teamed up with freshman Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) to oust Tyler Allen and Jason Sinkoff 8-1.
At first and second singles, Rossi and Van Eck won matches handily. Rossi beat Pena 6-2, 6-2, while Van Eck downed Damion 6-2, 6-1. Third singles marked the most competitive singles contest of the day. After losing the first set 4-6 to Bailly, Pisecky rebounded to win the second and third sets 6-2 and 10-8. At fourth singles, Reznek continued his strong play with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Gemmell. In the final two slots, senior Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) beat Sinkoff 6-1, 6-0 and Klassen defeated Pedro Gimenez 6-1, 6-2.
On Saturday, Marist will play Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Saint Peter's at 11 a.m. and Hartford at 2:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion.
