POUGHKEEPSIE,
N.Y. - The
Marist men's swimming and diving team fell to a strong Boston College team by a
score of 173-126 on Saturday afternoon at the McCann Natatorium. Freshman Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) turned in an excellent performance for the Red Foxes as he won all three of the events that he was entered in. He was joined by
sophomores Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Sean Molloy (Slingerlands,
N.Y.) as victorious Red Foxes.
On
an afternoon were Marist earned 11 second place finishes against their Atlantic
Coast Conference opponent, it was Ruddy, who was able to break through into the
win column multiple times for the Red Foxes. In Event 12, the 200-yd butterfly,
he swam to a 4.62 second victory with a final time of 1:55.34. He continued his
winning ways later in the meet in ultra-competitive 100-yd butterfly and 200-yd
IM events. In the 100-yd fly, Ruddy held off the second place finishing Collin
Thilo by .18 with his time of 52.72. The freshman's final win of the day was in
the 200-yd IM were he came in first with a time of 1:58.58.
Spinella
earned his victory in 200-yd backstroke action with a time of 1:56.26.
Sophomore
Alex Lombardi (Branford, Conn.) led a list of near victors with his 22.51
second performance in the 50-yd freestyle. He finished just .08 behind the victor
Thilo. Freshmen Evan Uy (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) and Dylan Cummings (Midland Park,
N.J.) fell in their attempts at wins in the 100-yd breaststroke and 100-yd
backstroke events by .09, respectively.
In
diving action, Molloy continued his strong showings in 3-meter action with a
first-place finish of 301.05. Coming off of a third in the 3-meter, freshman
Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) improved his placing in the 1-meter with a 250.35
effort and consequential second-place finish.
The
Red Foxes will conclude their regular season next Saturday, Jan. 28 when they
will welcome Seton Hall to the McCann Natatorium in a 1 p.m. meet. Prior to the
beginning of the meet, this year's senior class will be recognized by the
Marist Athletic Department.
