BRONX, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team fell to Fordham in a non-conference meet on Thursday evening by a score of 145-96. Facing off with the fully-funded Rams of the Atlantic 10 Conference at their home pool, the Red Foxes were able to earn victories in four individual events. Senior Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.) won two races, while junior Maddie Arciello (Missoula, Mont.) and sophomore Kimberly Tobias (San Jose, Calif.) were victorious one time each.
Conard continued her dominance of distance freestyle events with wins in the 500- and 1000-yd races. In the 500-yd event, she beat the field by almost six seconds with a final time of 5:04.71. In the 1000-yd race, Conard won by over 10 seconds with a result of 10:23.42. In Conard's third race, she nearly came from behind to win the 200-yd IM as she closed the final 50 yards with a 28.91 split to finish just .16 seconds out of first place.
In sprint freestyle action, Arciello turned in a pair of top three finishes, including a win in the 50-yd freestyle race. In Event Seven, the junior turned in a time of 24.79 for the victory, while finishing third in the 100-yd race at 53.66.
Kimberly Tobias earned Marist's lone victory in diving action as she took first place with a 243.90 point total in the 1-meter board. In the 3-meter event, senior Chelaine Eliazar (Honolulu, Hawaii) was Marist's top finisher as she finished second with a score of 216.00.
The Red Foxes will be off from competition for 16 days until Saturday, Nov. 10 with a home conference meet against Fairfield. The first event is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
