POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Red-shirt senior wide receiver Michael Rios (Miami, Fla.), senior defensive lineman Terrence Fede (Nyack, N.Y.) and senior offensive lineman Phede Celestin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) were named First Team All-Pioneer Football League (PFL ) on Tuesday.
Both Rios and Fede were unanimous selections. The only other player in the league to be a unanimous First Team selection was Butler linebacker Jordan Ridley.
Rios set single-season program records in 2012 with 1,173 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. He led the team with 50 receptions. Rios enjoyed the first two 200-yard receiving games in program history, including a record 244-yard effort against Davidson on Sept. 22. His 97-yard touchdown reception from junior quarterback Chuckie Looney (Ocala, Fla.) at Valparaiso on Oct. 27 was the longest play from scrimmage in program history. Rios also set Marist's career receiving touchdowns record with 17.
Fede was honored by the PFL for the second year in a row after earning Second Team honors in 2011. He led the Red Foxes in sacks and tackles for losses, with nine and 12.5 this season, respectively. Fede was named PFL Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 18 following a three-sack performance at Campbell. He finished tied for fourth on the team with 63 tackles, and added three pass break-ups, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick.
Celestin was named First Team All-PFL for the second straight year, and is one of just five players in the league to earn that distinction. He has solidified the right tackle position for the Red Foxes the past three seasons. Celestin made 31 consecutive starts there before his 2012 season was cut short due to a leg injury.
Two senior captains -defensive back Nick Mainiero (Croton, N.Y.) and linebacker Mike Hagemann (Vernon, N.J.) - were named Second Team All-PFL. Mainiero, who was named Honorable Mention All-PFL last year, was one of the defense's top playmakers from the safety position. He tied for the team lead with two fumble recoveries, was second on the squad with eight-and-a-half tackles for losses, and third with 64 total tackles. Hagemann led the Red Foxes with 88 tackles, which ranked him tied for 10th in the PFL, and was second with three-and-a-half sacks.
Seven Red Foxes received Honorable Mention All-PFL: senior tight end Anthony Calcagni (Thornwood, N.Y.), junior offensive lineman Brandon Castelbuono (Wayne, N.J.), fifth-year senior running back Calvin McCoy (Bronx, N.Y.), sophomore defensive lineman Nicholas Foster (Marlton, N.J.), junior linebacker Paul Sakowski (Chester, N.Y.), junior defensive back Nick Kaszei (Brook Park, Ohio) and senior punter Jason Myers (Chula Vista, Calif.). Calcagni earned First Team honors last year, Myers was named Honorable Mention as a kicker the last two years and Sakowski was named Honorable Mention last year. It is the first PFL honor for Castelbuono, McCoy, Foster and Kaszei.
The PFL will release its All-Academic Teams on Wednesday.
