Marist Football Announces Addition Of 26 Newcomers For 2012 Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist football head coach Jim Parady has announced the addition of 26 newcomers to the program for this season. The incoming class includes student-athletes from 10 different states - New York, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The new class consists of five defensive backs, four defensive linemen, four running backs, four wide receivers, three offensive linemen, two quarterbacks, two linebackers, one tight end, and one kicker.

"The coaches did an excellent job of recruiting this group of student-athletes from across the country," Parady said. "This group gives the program its most athletic class in our history. The combination of size, length and speed will allow them to compete for playing time as freshmen."

Here is a closer look at Marist's incoming class:

Ed Achziger - Quarterback - Dublin, Calif. - 6-0 / 180

Coach Parady:  "Ed can not only make all the throws we ask, but also create with his feet and be a threat with the ball in his hands. He is a true dual-threat quarterback."

John Brennan - Defensive Line - Croton, N.Y. / Croton-Harmon - 6-3 / 235

Coach Parady: "John is one of two Croton Tigers joining us this year, and comes in as a talented local student-athlete who will look to contribute right away on the defensive line."

Highlights

The Marist football team will begin its 2012 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Bryant. The Red Foxes will open their five-game home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 8 against Bucknell, and will open Pioneer Football League (PFL) play on Saturday, Sept. 22 against Davidson on Alumni Weekend. Marist is heading into its fourth season as a member of the PFL.
