WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - In the Marist Men's Cross Country team's season opener, the Marist Invitational, junior Ken Walshak (Babylon, N.Y.) led a group of six Red Foxes, who finished in the top 10 to give the host squad a 19-point victory over Fairfield and a 56-point margin over Iona.

Held at Bowdoin Park, the 5k race was hotly contested throughout as Walshak and freshman Ryan Colabella (Hauppauge, N.Y.) battled. At the finish line, Walshak came in with a time of 16:21, just three seconds ahead of Colabella's 16:24.

Other top 10 finishers included; senior Joel Moss (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) in fourth at 16:39, freshman John Lee (Wading River, N.Y.) in fifth at 16:46, sophomore Mark Valentino (Smithtown, N.Y.) in seventh at 16:54 and freshman Mark Vuono (Coventry, R.I.) in 10^th at 16:57.

Following the meet, Marist honored seven members of its senior class in a Senior Day ceremony: Arquimedes DelaCruz (Wantagh, N.Y.), Michael Keegan (Huntington, N.Y.), Mike Nicoletti (Lynbrook, N.Y.), Matt Panebianco (Tappan, N.Y.), Will Schanz (Latham, N.Y.) and Moss.

The Red Foxes will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Stony Brook Invitational.
