Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Marist's men's basketball fell to Providence 93-48 at the Dunkin Donuts Center tonight. The Red Foxes have dropped their first four games of the regular season, all in non-conference play.
Freshman Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) led the Red Foxes with 21 points in 32 minutes of play. He went 8-for-13 from the field, and 3-for-4 on three-pointers, and made two of his four free throws. Senior Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) grabbed three steals and six of the Red Foxes' 26 rebounds. Junior T.J. Curry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had three steals for Marist.
Marist shot 32.1 percent (17-53) from the field, claiming four of their 11 three-point field goal attempts. The Red Foxes capitalized on free throws, going 50 percent (10-20) from the line. TheyMarist committed 17 turnovers, while allowing Providence 16 second chance points.
Marist took its only lead of the first half and the game (6-4) 3:26 in. The Friars answered back with a field goal before going on a 12-point run to regain the lead for the remainder of the game. Marist went on a four-minute spell with no points while Providence capitalized on a 14-0 run, putting the Friars up 41-8, the largest lead they would claim in the first half.
In the first half, the Red Foxes shot 24 percent from the field (6-25), while going 0-4 on three-point field goals. Marist capitalized on Providence fouls, going 5-7 on free throws (71.4 percent). The Red Foxes committed 12 turnovers as they trailed 47-17 going into halftime.
Hart led the Red Foxes in the second half with 16 points.
This was the second of six straight games away form the McCann Arena for Marist. It is also the fourth of five games the Red Foxes will play against teams which qualified for the 2013 post-season play to open the season.
Marist will head to the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands for three games. The Red Foxes kick off the tournament against Maryland on Friday at 4 p.m. in a televised game by CBS College Sports.
