Men's Swimming and Diving Team Drops First Loss of Season

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.  –  The men's swimming and diving team fell 194 -106 in its first loss of the season to Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) meet today. The men's team is now 3-1 for the season.

Junior John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) won the 50 yard freestyle (21.62), despite the fact that he was not favored to win that event. The Bronc who was favored originally has claimed the two fastest times in the event so far this season in the MAAC. Spitzer also won the 100 yard free style (48.11) and led off the 400 free relay, all three wins with season best highs.

Also placing first for the Red Foxes, junior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) won the 100 yard backstroke in 52.67. Sophomore Caleb Camp (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished the event in third place with a time of 54.10.

Posting nine points for Marist, junior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) took first in the 200 yard butterfly )1:54.97) and the 200 yard individual medley (1:59.47).

Freshman Ryan Murphy (New Fairfield, CT.) took third in the 1,000 yard freestyle (9:50.75), while junior Sean Sullivan (Huntington, N.Y.) also posted points for the Red Foxes in the same event, coming in fifth place (10:03.49).

Junior Billy Drennen (Collegeville, Pa.) and senior Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) came in fourth (1:47.25) and fifth (1:47.65), respectively, in the 200 yard freestyle. Also for Marist, David DiMarco (Nazareth, PA. Nazareth, PA.) and junior Nicholas Vandermolen (Brielle, N.J.) placed fourth (1:01.51) and fifth (1:01.70), respectively, in the 100 yard breaststroke.

For the diving events, sophomore Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and senior Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the one and three-meter dives.

The Red Foxes move on to compete in the H2O Hounds Invitational Dec. 6-7, in Baltimore, Md. The first meet is set for 4 p.m. against Iona and Saint Peter's.
