POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist water polo team has named senior Yuriria Chavez and junior Anna-Lena Hathaway as the team captains for the 2013-14 season.
Last season, Chavez appeared in all 37 games as a junior for the Red Foxes She tied for seventh on the team with 50 points, seventh in goals with 25 and sixth with 25 assists – all of which were career-highs for her. Chaves scored on 45.5 percent of her shots, which was second on the team, and had 41 steals which was the eighth highest total for Marist. She had multi-point efforts in 12 games, including four games with multi goals. In her three seasons with the Red Foxes, Chavez has recorded 63 goals and 46 assists for 109 points in 144 games played.
Hathaway appeared in all 37 games as a sophomore last season, finishing third on the team with 84 points, fifth with 39 goals and second with 45 assists. She took 108 shots and owned a .361 shooting percentage. Hathaway led the Red Foxes with 88 steals and was third with nine field blocks. In total, she drew 25 ejections, the fifth-highest total on the team, including five five-meter penalties. She went 2-3 on five-meter penalty shots. Hathaway had multi-point efforts in 24 games, including 13 games with multiple goals.
The Red Foxes will open their season at the Brown Invite on Feb. 1-2.
