Water Polo Wins Two Over George Washington And Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Led by four goals apiece from Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) and Ellie Hoffman (Pasadena, Calif.), the Marist water polo team won two games Sunday at the Bucknell Invite, defeating George Washington 10-6 and Bucknell 9-6.

In the first game against George Washington, the Red Foxes (5-4) outscored their opponent 7-2 over the second and third quarters to erase a one-goal deficit and take a 9-5 lead.

Anna-Lena Hathaway (Pasadena, Calif.) started the run with a goal at the 5:24 mark of the second quarter to tie the score at 3-3. Robyn Crabtree (Cutler Bay, Fla.) followed with her second goal of the game and Hoffman scored with 15 seconds left on the clock to give Marist a 5-3 lead at halftime.

Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.) continued the scoring just 24 seconds after halftime. Following a George Washington goal, Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.) and Hoffman scored 34 seconds apart and Crabtree added her third goal of the game 41 seconds after that to extend the Red Foxes' lead to 9-4.

Levien scored again with 1:06 left in the game to provide the final margin. Rebecca Thomas (Cape Town, South Africa) made eight saves to go along with two steals in the Marist net.

Against the host Bison in the second game, Marist jumped out to a 3-0 led in the first quarter on goals by Hoffman, Hathaway and Else.

After Bucknell tied the score at 4-4 midway through the third quarter, Hamby scored her second of the game with 23 seconds left in the quarter to put Marist back on top, 5-4.

Hamby, Hathaway and Hoffman provided some insurance with goals in the first 2:21 of the third quarter, bringing the lead to 8-5. Levien added another goal later in the quarter to complete the scoring for Marist.

Elise Humphries (Anaheim, Calif.) made five saves in her season debut.

Marist will take next weekend off before hosting the Marist Invite March 2-3 at the McCann Natatorium. The Red Foxes will play DDO, a Canadian club team, twice as well as Notre Dame (Ohio).
