Women's Lacrosse Tripped Up In Road Matchup At Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Marist women's lacrosse team fell victim to a substantial goal run during the middle portion of the game to lose on the road at Vermont by a 16-9 score. Up 5-4 in the first half, the Catamounts rattled off 11 unanswered goals to take control of the game at 15-5. Senior Ashley Miller (Montville, N.J.) led the Red Foxes with four goals, while Lexi Brannigan (Loudonville, N.Y.) aided the attack with two markers of her own.

After falling down early 3-0, Marist fought back with three goals over a 5:43 span from 21:41 to 15:58. Brannigan spearheaded the run with the initial two goals at 21:41 and 17:06. Miller closed out the streak with a score at 15:58.

Vermont halted the Red Foxes' momentum with a single goal at 13:17 by Justine Allen.

Miller restarted Marist's scoring with a goal at 10:58. Fellow senior Amanda Tuck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) gave the Red Foxes their first lead of the game 3:30 later by a 5-4 margin.

The Catamounts would respond with an 11-0 goal run over the next 16:36 to go up 15-5 and put the Red Foxes in a deficit that they would not be able to overcome in the final 19:13 of the second half.

Marist closed out the game on a 4-1 run with two goals by Miller and single tallies by sophomore Kirsten Viscount (Smithtown, N.Y.) and freshman Kara McHugh (Madison, Conn.) to make the final score 16-9.

For the game, Vermont outshot Marist 34-28 with a 28-19 advantage in shots on goal. The Catamounts also held a 15-12 margin in draw controls and a 12-8 lead in caused turnovers.

Defensively, senior goalie Ashley Casiano (South Windsor, Conn.) finished with a season-high 12 saves, while sophomore Tina Pumo (Oceanside, N.Y.) added a team-high three caused turnovers.

The Red Foxes (0-3) will next be in action on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at home versus Hofstra. The opening draw is slated for 1 p.m.
