BRONX, N.Y. – The Marist softball team traveled to Fordham for a doubleheader today.  The Red Foxes dropped the first game 9-1 against the Rams, and fell 11-2 in the second game.

Game One          

Marist posted a run in the first inning off a single to left field from senior Alyssa Zahka (Lexington, Mass.). Sophomore Maureen Duddy (San Mateo, Calif.) scored the only run for the Red Foxes in the outing.

The Rams went on to score nine runs, claiming the game in five innings.

Duddy led Marist with two hits, while sophomore Kyrsten Van Natta (Maplewood, N.J.) and Zahka tallied the other two for the team. Defensively, Zahka and senior Haley Birnbaum led the Red Foxes with three putouts each.

Game Two

The Red Foxes claimed one of their two runs in the first inning. Freshman Janna Korak flied out to right field to score Duddy for the second time today.

The Rams tallied 11 runs over the next four innings. Marist was able to post another run to the board in the fifth inning off a single to center field from sophomore Nicole Cheek (Simi Valley, Calif.). Van Natta would score the second run for Marist.

The Red Foxes posted five hits in the outing, but committed five errors on the defensive end. Zahka led Marist with four putouts, while the team's assists were spread out between four Red Foxes.

Marist moves on to open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play this Saturday against Fairfield. The Doubleheader kicks off at 12 p.m.
