SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Marist women's swimming and diving team (8-2, 5-0) defeated Seton Hall, 159-141, in its penultimate meet of the regular season Jan. 24. The Red Foxes clinched their best overall mark since the 2012-13 season when they finished 6-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play and 10-1 overall.
Junior Renata Diotalevi (Madison, Conn.) highlighted the dual meet by qualifying for the NCAA Zone Qualifier Diving Championships. Her score of 269.63 points was the highest amongst a Marist 1-2-3 finish in the 1-meter dive. Senior Kimberly Tobias (San Jose, Calif.) followed in second place (260.03 points) while freshman Megan Berardelli (Ambler, Pa.) came in third (253.88 points). Tobias edged out Berardelli 270.00-264.60 to take first place on the 3-meter board.
For the second meet in a row, junior Bethany Powhida (Delmar, N.Y.) won the 100-yard backstroke after clocking in at 59.45 seconds. Powhida crossed the finish line just 0.22 seconds ahead of Seton Hall junior Gabbi Levine to take the top spot and also ranked first in the 200-yard event with a time of 2:08.10.
Sophomore Isabella Morreale (Short Hills, N.J.) and freshman Karly Haraden (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) each picked up a pair of victories for Marist in their individual events. Morreale won the 100- (1:07.88) and 200-yard (2:26.75) breaststroke, while Haraden ranked first in the 1,000- (10:39.64) and 500-yard (5:11.71) freestyle.
Marist will take on Binghamton in a dual meet at 1 p.m. Jan. 31 on Senior Day in McCann Natatorium.
