EDISON, New Jersey – Sixth year senior Tori Jarosz and senior Sydney Coffey have been selected to the women's basketball preseason All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Sydney Coffey, was a member of the 2014-15 All-MAAC Third Team. Coffey was sixth in the MAAC with a 77.7 free throw percentage and ranked ninth with 12.6 points per game last season. Coffey was ninth in the conference in three point field goal percentage, shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Tori Jarosz will be back in uniform for Marist this season. Jarosz led the MAAC with 2.6 blocks per game and averaged 17.1 points per game, which put her second overall in the conference. The 6-3 center secured 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 49.7 percent from the field, ranking third in the MAAC in field goal percentage. Jarosz was second in the MAAC with 13 double-doubles for the Red Foxes.
The Marist women's basketball team has also been selected second in the 2015-16 coaches preseason poll, receiving a total of 103 points and three first place votes. The preseason poll is voted on by all 11 head coaches in the MAAC.
The Red Foxes come in just behind Fairfield as the preseason favorite to win the 2016 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship. The Stags received five of the 11 first place votes and a total of 133 points. Trailing Marist is the defending MAAC champion, Quinnipiac, who was selected third after winning its first MAAC Championship and earning its second NCAA tournament bid in three years.
Iona College was selected fourth by the coaches in the preseason poll. The Gaels were 12-8 in MAAC play and 15-15 overall last season and are led by preseason player of the year Joy Adams. Closing out the top five in the 2015-16 MAAC Women's Basketball preseason poll is Siena College. Siena is coming off a season where they finished fifth with an 11-9 MAAC record and a 22-13 overall record. The Saints are led by reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year Margot Hetzke and junior Meghan Donohue.
You can first catch Marist women's basketball in action in a home exhibition against Holy Family on Sunday, November 8. The Red Foxes then officially open the 2015-16 season with a trip to South Dakota State on Friday, November 13 while the team's home opener is on Thursday, November 19 against Delaware.
