NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the 2015 season by erasing a five-goal deficit to defeat the Columbia Lions 12-11. The Red Foxes are now 1-1 while Columbia falls to 0-2.

An unassisted goal by senior Kirsten Viscount (Smithtown, N.Y.) with 4:32 remaining was the game-winner. Senior Lexi Brannigan (Loudonville, N.Y.) netted a career-high four goals, with two coming off free position shots, in a span of 8:15 in the second half.

Viscount also powered Marist's defense, tying senior Erin Schroeder (Vero Beach, Fla.) for the team lead with five ground balls. Sophomore Abigail Witczak (Mendham, N.J.) made four saves to preserve the win.

Marist's second half scoring spree began with Viscount's first goal inside the first two minutes of the second half. Her score ignited a 7-1 run that included Brannigan's four goals and was capped by a goal from senior Jackie DiMaria (Dix Hills, N.Y.), her second of the season.

The Lions roared back to tie the contest two more times before Viscount's final goal sealed the win for Marist.

Columbia sophomore Taylor Quinn finished with a game-high five draw controls, while freshman Kelsey Gedin made 10 saves.

Marist outshot the Lions 18-7 in the second half and 28-18 in the entire contest. The Red Foxes picked up 26 ground balls to the Lions' 22, while Columbia had 17 turnovers.

The Red Foxes will play their earliest game of the season at Vermont on Feb. 28. Opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m.
