HAMDEN, Connecticut - The Marist men's lacrosse team (6-3, 3-0 MAAC) took down Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Quinnipiac on March 28.
Senior Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) tied his career high with seven goals, including six in the first half. Junior Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) tallied a career-high four asssists. In the faceoff X, junior Dominic Montemurro (Kings Park, N.Y.) went 23-for-28 and scooped up a career-high 14 ground balls.
Marist bounced back from an early two-goal deficit with scores from Joka and senior Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.). Joka scored his second goal of the game on a man-up opportunity with 3:25 left in the first quarter and the Red Foxes never trailed from that point on.
Quinnipiac hung around in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to one, but the Red Foxes ended the half on an 8-0 tear that included freshman Mitchell Standera's (Penfield, N.Y.) first career goal. Marist scored nine goals in the second quarter to break away with a 14-5 lead by halftime.
With just one second left in the game, sophomore J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) found the back of the net to earn his fifth point of the contest.
Junior Ryan Keenan led the Bobcats on the attack wth four goals while Jack Brust came off the bench in goal to make 16 saves and collect a team-high six ground balls.
Marist converted on half of its extra man opportunities and outshot the Bobcats 50-28. The Red Foxes nearly duplicated that margin in ground balls, scooping up 40 to Quinnipiac's 27.
