POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Former Marist football kicker/punter Jason Myers signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday.
Myers is the third Marist football player to sign a contract with an NFL team. Michael Rios signed free-agent contracts with the Arizona Cardinals in 2013 and Miami Dolphins in 2014. Terrence Fede became the first former Marist football player to be chosen in the NFL Draft when he was selected by the Miami Dolphins in 2014.
The Red Foxes have also had players in recent years participate in rookie mini-camps in Kevin Fitzpatrick (Buffalo Bills, 2012) and Jaquan Bryant (Oakland Raiders, 2012). Several former Marist players have also played professionally overseas.
Myers played for the Red Foxes from 2009-12, serving as the team's primary kicker for the majority of his career. He was a three-time Pioneer Football League Honorable Mention selection, and led the PFL in touchbacks in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Myers holds records for the longest field goal in program history (49 yards) and most career points by a kicker (159). He also was the team's primary punter as a senior.
The Marist football program celebrated its 50th season in 2014. The Red Foxes will open the 2015 season on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Bucknell. The upcoming season will mark Marist's seventh as a member of the Pioneer Football League.
