POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team fell to 2-2 on the season, losing a 12-8 contest to Hofstra on March 6 in Tenney Stadium.
Junior captain Kara McHugh (Madison, Conn.) posted a hat trick, while junior Allison Gionta (Eastport, N.Y.) finished with two goals and two assists. Sophomore Hayley Burke (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored on the only two shots she fired in the contest.
The two teams traded three goals to open the game, with Burke scoring her first goal of the season on a free position shot.
Gionta assisted on both Marist goals to begin the second half, feeding McHugh and Burke, respectively. Gionta's two goals late in the second half brought the Red Foxes to within three with 12:30 remaining in the game.
Hofstra junior Lindsey Alfano netted three goals, while senior Brittain Altomare won a game-high six draw controls.
Marist's defense caused five turnovers.
The Red Foxes begin a four-game road trip March 14 when they face off against Binghamton at 1 p.m.
