LEWISTON, N.Y. - Junior Allison Gionta (Eastport, N.Y.) netted a career-high six goals as the Marist women's lacrosse team dominated Niagara, 13-7, on April 8. The Red Foxes moved to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.

Gionta finished the contest with nine points and was one of seven Marist players to find the back of the net. Junior Kara McHugh (Madison, Conn.) posted game highs with five ground balls and two draw controls and senior Jackie DiMaria (Dix Hills, N.Y.) racked up three points on a goal and two assists.

Two of the game's first four goals were scored on free position attempts, and the Red Foxes led throughout the game from Gionta's first goal at the 25:20 mark of the first half. An unassisted score from Niagara sophomore Taylor Wolf inside the final two minutes cut the Marist lead to 5-2 heading into halftime.

Marist broke the game open with a 4-0 scoring spree to begin the second half. The run began with free position goals from Gionta and freshman Morgan Jaycox (Amityville, N.Y.). Niagara countered with two more goals, the latter coming with a man down, but did not reach any closer than five goals the rest of the way.

In an offensive assault, the Red Foxes outshot the Purple Eagles 35-17 and owned a 6-2 advantage in assists.

Niagara sophomore Kara Martin collected a team-high three ground balls while Wolf scored a pair of goals.

Marist will bring a 6-1 away record into its next contest at Monmouth which will be televised on ESPN3. Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m. April 11.
