POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's tennis team has released the spring portion of its schedule Wednesday afternoon, as announced by head coach Tim Smith. The Red Foxes play teams from eight different conferences starting in January and will kick off Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play against Fairfield on Sunday, March 12th.
“It takes a lot of hard work on and off the court, excellent communication with the coaches, self-discipline and talented players to win a conference championship,” said Smith. “Our spring schedule which includes matches against eight different conferences should give our players many more competitive matches and the chance to do so.”
The Red Foxes concluded the fall portion of their schedule after successful team trips to the Ivy Plus Invitational, Yale Invitational, Farnsworth Tournament, and the ITA Regionals and pick back up again starting with a trip to the Army West Point Invitational on January 21st.
“The fall season with our tournament schedule and five players in our regional tournament gave our coaches an excellent opportunity to watch more of our players under tournament conditions,” Smith said. “It showed that we have a lot of depth, experience and talent on this team”
Following that meet with Army West Point and Sacred Heart at the Army Invitational the Red Foxes will then face Hofstra (Feb. 5), Wagner and Fordham (Feb. 19), Stony Brook (Mar. 10), Yale (Mar. 11), and Fairfield (Mar. 12) in a non-conference match between conference foes.
On March 16th thru the 19th the Red Foxes will take part in a to be determined tournament before returning home to host Georgetown (Mar. 25) and Boston University (Mar. 26).
Conference play kicks off with a home dual meet against Rider on Thursday, March 30th and Quinnipiac on Wednesday, April 5th. The Red Foxes other road conference opponents include, Niagara (Apr. 8), Fairfield (Apr. 11) and Monmouth (Apr. 22). Home conference opponents include, Siena (Apr. 12) and Saint Peter's (Apr. 19).
The Red Foxes finished last season 14-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play earning a share of the MAAC regular season title. Marist narrowly missed NCAA postseason play for the first time since 2012 after a MAAC semifinal loss to Quinnipiac. The Marist men's tennis team has made 12 NCAA appearances in program's history and are in pursuit of their 14th MAAC title.
