POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Chavaughn Lewis, a 2015 Marist graduate and the men's basketball program's all-time leading scorer, will be suiting up for the summer league team of the NBA's Detroit Pistons.
Detroit will be participating in the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League from July 2-8. Each team will play five games in this time. The games will take place on the practice court of the Amway Center, home of the Orlando Magic.
Lewis scored 2,119 points in four years at Marist. As a senior, he finished 10th in the nation in scoring and 13th in steals. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. Following graduation, he played for the Philadelphia 76ers' entry in the Utah Jazz Summer League.
In the 2015-16 season, Lewis played for Juventus in Lithuania. In 47 games, he averaged 11.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while helping his team reach the league semifinals. In his 14 games in the FIBA Europe Cup, he averaged 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.2 steals per game.
Detroit's general manager is Jeff Bower, who served as head coach of the Red Foxes during Lewis' junior season of 2013-14. This is the second straight year a former Red Fox has appeared on Detroit's summer league team, as Adam Kemp (Class of 2014) suited up in 2015.
