DOVER, Delaware – Keri Bradley recorded the fifth hat-trick in program history and Camille Bowen recorded the sixth as the Marist women's soccer team dominated the Delaware State Hornets and won on the road 7-1 Wednesday evening.
This is the first time in program history the Red Foxes have had two players with hat-tricks in the same game. With the win the Red Foxes move to 4-5 overall and conclude non-conference play. With the loss the Hornets fall to 2-6 overall.
Marist scored four goals in the first half, kicked off by a goal from Bradley 12 minutes into the game. Bradley then scored again for Marist just over two minutes later and Brianna Robinson scored the third goal less than a minute after that.
Bowen put the Red Foxes on the board for the fourth time with :40 seconds remaining in the half from just about 15 yards out as Marist headed to the locker room with their largest lead of the season.
Exactly four minutes into the second half, Bowen got her second of the game on a free kick from 25 yards away. The Red Foxes then opened the lead up to 6-0 as Bradley secured her hat-trick with assists from Bowen and Robinson.
Delaware State was able to get one back in the 62nd minute after a corner kick was sent home by Kalyn Fauntleroy but the Red Foxes quickly dispelled any thoughts of a comeback when Bowen scored again in the 75th minute to secure a hat-trick of her own.Â
Bowen's third goal plus her assist from earlier in the match gave her seven points, tying the record for most points in a game, a record held by Rycke Guiney during a game from the 2013-14 season.
Marist finished the game with a 20-5 shot lead over Delaware State and a 17-4 advantage in shots on goal. Makala Foley, Ashley Houghton and freshman Francesca Guzzo each made a save in net for the Red Foxes. Freshman Bianca Furci tacked on two assists and Danielle Glazer tallied an assist in the Red Foxes big win.
The Red Foxes seven goals are the second most in program history, falling short of an 11-0 win on September 24th, 2004 also against Delaware State. In that game the Red Foxes earned 31 total scoring points. Last year the Red Foxes scored seven goals in a game against Fairfield. Eight different Marist players scored goals and the Red Foxes outshot the Hornets, 62-0. Marist has scored six goals twice in program history.
Up next the Red Foxes take a week long break before returning to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action when they host rival Siena, Wednesday, September 28th. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
