CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts – The Marist women's swimming and diving team lost its third dual meet of the season at Boston College, falling to the Eagles 156-144 on Jan. 14.
Sophomore Lauren Katz picked up the first two victories of her career on the 1- and 3-meter diving boards with season best scores. She racked up 235.58 points at one meter to edge junior teammate Megan Berardelli by just more than six points (229.20 points). In the 3-meter event Katz was atop the field with 248.78 points followed by Berardelli in second place with 233.85 points.
In the swimming pool senior Meredith Wurtz won all four individual events she raced in, starting with the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.93). She also took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.41 seconds and touched first in the 100-yard event (52.99 seconds). Lastly, Wurtz anchored Marist's first place 400-yard freestyle relay squad that clocked in at 3:37.85. Juniors Georgia Goldman, Deirdre Connor and Sara Nestrowitz swam the first three legs.
Individually, Nestrowitz led a 1-2-3 Red Foxes finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with her quickest time all season (10:37.32). Connor (10:49.61) and junior Shannon Gordon (10:56.35) finished second and third, respectively. Nestrowitz was also third in the 200-yard freestyle and second to classmate Melanie Newton in the 500-yard event. Newton stole first place at 500 yards after clocking in at a season best 5:14.18.
The Red Foxes had two more backstroke winners, as Goldman took the 100-yard event in 59.46 seconds and junior Margaux Purvis nabbed her first career victory at 200 yards (2:10.24).
Marist (6-3, 5-0 MAAC) will have its final road meet of the regular season against Seton Hall at 1 p.m. Jan. 21.
