VESTAL, New York - The Marist women's lacrosse team began its seven-game road trip with a 9-7 win at Binghamton on March 5.

Sunday's victory marked the fifth straight year Marist has defeated the Bearcats and 10th time overall. The Red Foxes are now 2-3 on the season while Binghamton is 1-5.

Sophomore Hailey Wagner picked up her second hat trick of the season and added three draw controls. Senior Abigail Witczak made 10 saves in goal and held the Bearcats to 3-for-12 on free position attempts.  

Both sides scored two goals each in the first six minutes of the contest. Freshman Samantha Mehalick gave Marist its first lead with her 10th goal of the season at the 20:34 mark. Five different Red Foxes scored in the first half as Marist ended up in front 5-3 by the halftime break.

With the help of a pair of unassisted scores by sophomore Rebecca Golderman and a goal on a woman up opportunity, Binghamton went on a 4-2 run in the first 20 minutes of the second half. The Bearcats' run cut the Marist deficit to 7-6.

Witczak continued to keep the game close with saves high and low and Wagner caught fire with two goals in as many minutes to help the Red Foxes extend their lead and preserve the win.  

Golderman netted a game-high four goals and Binghamton outshot the Red Foxes 34-22 on the afternoon. Junior Emma Jehle made 10 saves for the Bearcats but Marist owned a 10-6 advantage in caused turnovers, three of which came from senior Madison Calkins.

Marist will battle Sacred Heart in an early 12 p.m. contest March 11 in Fairfield, Connecticut.
