RIVERDALE, New York - With the help of a career day from senior Olivia Pitonzo, the Marist women's lacrosse team took down Manhattan, 16-9, to end its seven-game road trip 4-3. The Red Foxes evened their MAAC record to 1-1 and jumped to 5-6 overall while the Jaspers dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Olivia racked up 11 points on career highs of five goals and six assists. She also led the Red Foxes with four draw controls. Seven different Red Foxes hit the back of the net.

In goal senior Abigail Witczak made 16 saves to earn the victory and junior Stefanie Wenz was a defensive force with three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.  

There were four ties in a close first half. Olivia had her hand in the first three scores for the Red Foxes and hit the back of the net at the 18:09 mark to put Marist up 3-2. Senior Natalie Bonaroti caught fire in the final 12 minutes of the opening period, scoring on her first two shots of the day, and the Red Foxes led 7-5 by halftime.

Five unanswered Marist goals opened up the second stanza and the defense was flawless on nearly all of its clear attempts to limit Jaspers' possessions. Down the stretch junior Lauren Mazza extended her scoring streak to seven games and freshman Carly Grant added her first career goal three minutes later for good measure.    

The Red Foxes had an 8-4 edge in assists but Manhattan's defense held a 25-17 advantage in ground balls. Jaspers' sophomore Molly Fitzpatrick had a pair of goals alongside two assists.     

Marist will return to Tenney Stadium for the first time since Feb. 28 when it hosts Quinnipiac. Opening draw for the first of three straight home contests is set for 1 p.m. April 8.
