POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's tennis team took part in three different tournaments across the country Friday morning and afternoon. The team split squads and sent players to both the Quinnipiac Fall Open in Hamden, Connecticut and the Ivy Plus Invite hosted by Yale.
Javier Restrepo also competed at the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, California.
QUINNIPIAC FALL OPEN
In flight A singles,
Paulo Siracusa dropped a match to UConn's John Holtman, 6-3, 6-3 while
Lars Schouten moves on to day two via bye in the first round. In B singles, TImo Tanzer fell to Quinnipiac's Bernhard Wright, 7-5, 0-6, 10-7 and
Jan Dernic advanced via bye.
Dernic and Siracusa teamed up to defeat Fairfield's Rodgers and Townsend in flight A doubles, 6-2 and advance to day two. In B doubles, the Red Foxes also picked up a win as Schouten and Tanzer defeated Quinnipiac's Yannone and Cachapero, 6-4.
IVY PLUS INVITE
At the Ivy plus, each of the competitors played multiple matches during day one.
Rudolf Kurz and
Christopher Gladden dropped their first match 8-3. Kurz would drop his second match in a tiebreak, 6-4, 5-7, 0-6 and his third 1 & 3.
Gianlucca Massa and
Justin Chanthalangsy teamed up but fell in their doubles match, 8-7.
Massa would then go on to lose his first singles match in a tiebreak, 6-4, 7-6, 6-2 but bounced back and won his second singles match 4 & 3. Gladden lost in both his singles matches 4 & 4 and 1 & 6 while Chanthalangsy dropped his, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.
The Red Foxes will continue on at both the Quinnipiac Fall Open and the Ivy Plus Invite tomorrow and Sunday.
