BUFFALO, New York – The Marist volleyball team completed its nine-match away stretch with its second shutout of the week, earning a 3-0 win over Canisius in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Sept. 24. Set scores were 25-21, 25-16, 25-10.
Â
The Red Foxes improved to 5-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play while the Golden Griffins fell to 4-10 and 2-2 in the MAAC.
Â
Turning Points:
Neither side led by more than three for a majority of the first set. Canisius threatened to get on the board first, going ahead 11-8 on three straight points, but Marist took advantage of the Golden Griffins' attack errors and continued to side out. A pair of kills from senior
Kelsey Ediger ended the frame and rose the Marist attack percentage to .267.
Â
The second stanza was a bit more one sided as the Red Foxes continued to get kills from a variety of pin hitters. Marist padded its lead with a 6-1 outburst highlighted by a pair of kills from senior
Ashton Korona, which made it 19-11. Junior
Lauren Waide chipped in four kills and a service ace to propel the Red Foxes' offense in the set.
Â
Marist sealed the deal from the service line, as Ediger and junior
Taylor van der Biezen swiped consecutive aces as part of a 12-4 scoring spree to open the third set. The Golden Griffins scored three straight points, but proved to be no match for a strong Red Foxes' attack. Â
