POUHGKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's tennis team finished its season opening set of tournaments Sunday afternoon, wrapping up play at the Ivy Plus and Quinnipiac Fall Open.
QUINNIPIAC FALL OPEN
Lar Schouten continued his run of hot play in the A singles bracket as he defeated Wesleyan's Andrew Finkleman, 7-5, 3-6, 11-9 and advanced to the final match in the bracket. Schouten would fall to Wesleyan's Steven Chen, 6-1, 2-6, 12-10 but not before picking up three wins against tough competition over the weekend.
Jan Dernic was the only other Red Fox remaining on Sunday but he would drop his final match to Quinnipiac's Austin Yannone, 6-1, 6-3. Yannone would go on to win the B singles bracket.
IVY PLUS INVITE
In the Ivy Plus Invite, the Red Foxes would finalize their weekend with matches in doubles and singles.
Christopher Gladden and Rudolph Kurz teamed up but fell to a Dartmouth pairing 8-5. Kurz would also drop a match in singles to Brown's Arocho, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 and Gladden would fall again to Dartmouth, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. Wrapping up play,
Gianlucca Massa was downed by Yale's Stefan Doehler, 6-4, 6-3.
UP NEXT
The Red Foxes will return to action this week at the Army West Point Fall Classic on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1. After that the team will travel to Princeton, NJ for the Farnsworth Invitational from Oct. 6-8.
