POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Red Foxes picked up a victory against Manhattan, defeating the Jaspers in four sets. Marist saw great contributions from its freshmen, with the group accounting for 13 kills. With the win, Marist has a winning record for the first time since the start of the season, sitting at 9-8 and 6-1 in conference play.
Manhattan started the set 5-0, as the Red Foxes were unable to counter some well-placed kills from the Jaspers. The Red Foxes tied it up at 11 all, when a couple of attach errors fell in their favor.
Marist landed six unanswered kills, with four coming from
Chidera Udeh, to go up 17-12. Marist kept the momentum the rest of the way, winning set one 25-17.
The Jaspers took a lead early in set two and never looked back. The Red Foxes got the ball back trailing 20-18, but three kills from Vivian Donovan propelled Manhattan to a 25-19 set win. Marist was plagued with unforced errors, finishing the set with seven attack errors and two service errors.
Set three remained tight with both teams exchanging leads throughout the set. A kill from
Lauren Waide put the Red Foxes at set point at 24-22, but Manhattan responded and got the ball back to serve. The Jaspers sent the ball to the end of the court and almost landed a kill,
Morgan Owens sailed the ball back to Manhattan and
Sarah Austin closed the set with a kill.
Marist came into set four hot, forcing a timeout at 7-1. Waide sparked the Red Foxes with three consecutive points. Manhattan would not be able to overcome the early deficit, falling 25-20.
- 10 different players recorded points with Nikki DeSerpa leading with 19.
- Taylor van der Biezen filled up the stat sheet, finishing with 51 assists, eight digs, four service aces and two blocks.
- Morgan Owens also had four service aces.
- Marist finished with 64 kills compared to Manhattan's 44.
- Waide landed her 100th career block.
- Skylar Harrison landed her first solo block.
"We got some reps for some kids who don't get a lot of floor time and they got some good close game experience and I think it will be good for us down the road." Said Head Coach
