Poughkeepsie, New York- Marist men's and women's swimming and diving team will be in action this weekend as they travel to Fairfield, Connecticut to take on Fairfield University on Saturday, November 17.

The men's team came up short up against Rider University as they lost their first match of the year 163-137. Â A few memorable moments from the match came from Senior Daniel Knowll who in the 50- and 100- yard freestyle had a dominant performance with times of 20.72 and 45.63 seconds. The times are the fastest times swam by a Marist swimmer at home and in the MAAC conference.
The women's team got their first win of the season, defeating Rider University 166-134. In the win, sophomore
Esabelle Gervasio set a new record in the 1-meter dive with 285.90 points which would also get her qualified for the NCAA diving championships in March. Also in the matchup the team of sophomore
Georgeanne Zimmerman and freshman
Sidney Judson,
Jessica Freund and,
Jordyn Deubel would win a thrilling 400- yard relay where they would barley edge Rider with a time of 3:40.35 minutes. .14 seconds ahead of Rider.

The men sit at 0-5 on the season while the women post a 2-3 record. The women's team are the defending MAAC Champions. Both teams recently fell to Loyola Maryland but broke a couple of school records in the process. Sophomore Sara Ostensen set a new program record in the 800 Meter Freestyle with her split in the relay with a final time of 9:09.23. Â Sophomore Maria Nitti would set a new program record as well in her first-place finish in the 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of 26.95 surpassing the previous record of 26.96 set by Michelle Yoshida in 2012. On the men's side saw Patrick Boyle broke the program record with his second-place finish in the 1500 Meter Freestyle with a final time of 16:33.27 surpassing the previous record of 17:02.47 set last season by now Junior Phillip Zyskowski.

After Saturdays matchup Marist will head to Baltimore, MD to partake in H2ounds Invitational from November 30 through December 1. Iona, Saint Peter's and Loyola will be at the invitational.
