Corrigan Named to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

The Senior Named Among the Best in the Country

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Marist men's lacrosse senior goalkeeper Brian Corrigan has been named as one of the top 50 players in the nation as he was a member of the 2018 Tewaaraton Award men's watch lists. The lists include the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the early contenders for the 2018 Tewaaraton Award. While in the history of the award no goalkeeper has won this award, Corrigan is just one of 4 goalies in the entire country to be named to the initial list in 2018.

Established in 2001, the Tewaaraton Award is awarded annually to the best men's and women's lacrosse player in the NCAA. The award honors the top players in the country while paying homage to the sport's Native American roots and history.

Players not named to the initial lists have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch list additions, if applicable, will be announced on March 22 and April 5. On April 26, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions.

Corrigan carries with him an extensive list of accomplishments. The senior is the only goalkeeper in the nation to be ranked in the top ten in save percentages (second), goals against average (third in 2017, eighth in 2016) and saves (seventh) each of the last two seasons. He was an All-ECAC second team and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2016 and an All-MAAC first team in 2017. Corrigan was named a preseason All-American honorable mention for the second year in a row at the beginning of the season by Inside Lacrosse.

The Marist captain becomes the fourth Red Fox to be named on the watch list in the last five years, joining past Marist stars Joseph Radin (2016), Mike Begley (2015), and Connor Rice (2013) Rice is the only player to be named to the watch list in more than one season.

The Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held May 31st at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.
