POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -Â Â The Marist Men's Tennis team will kick off a weekend filled with three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches starting Friday afternoon against Fairfield and ending on Sunday with a road match against Siena.
On Friday, the Red Foxes host the Stags at 3 p.m. at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. On Saturday, The Red Foxes will also welcome Niagara to the Marist Tennis Pavilion as the team hosts its annual Senior Day. Ceremonies are set to begin at 1:45 with the match beginning at 2 p.m. To round out the weekend, Marist will travel to Siena to take on the Saints at 8 p.m.
LAST MATCH
The Red foxes fell 4-3 to MAAC foe Quinnipiac in a tightly contested match. The Bobcats entered singles play with a 1-0 overall match lead and then picked up a quick straight set victory at first singles to extend their lead to 2-0.
Gianlucca Massa picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Patrick Cachapero to knot the score. The match came down to the fourth singles position as Quinnipiac's Axel Stern and
Christopher Gladden battled back-and-forth. Stern came out on top after winning a tight first set 7-6 and then hitting pivotal shots in the second set to earn a 6-4 victory and clinch the match for Quinnipiac.
SCOUTING FAIRFIELD
The Stags come into the match with a 5-8 overall record and a win over Niagara 5-2. The Stags took two of the three double points in the match. Dylan Appel and Lewis Edwards took down Brent Boleslav and Shyam Srinivasan 6-3 in #3 Doubles to start the day. Anthony Caputo then took down Finnbar Adams in #4 Singles by a score of (6-2, 7-6 (7-3)). Fairfield's final win of the day came in #3 Singles as Jeffrey Rodgers defeated Brent Boleslav (4-6, 6-1, 6-3).
SCOUTING NIAGARA
The Purple Eagles are coming off a 5-2 loss to Fairfield this past Saturday. The loss drops Niagara's record to 3-16 overall and 1-3 in MAAC play. Niagara dropped the doubles point with losses at two of the three spots, won from the first two singles positions, but were bested in the other four matches.
SCOUTING SIENA
In their last match, the Saints picked up a 4-3 comeback win over St. Peter's this past Sunday. The win improved Siena to 2-1 in league play. In doubles, Muhammad Raza Sawani and Matt Bellino won at doubles three 6-2. They were followed closely by Sagar Bains and Cameron L. Kirkwood at doubles two who won 6-3 to give Siena the doubles point. In Singles St Peters took the first three points to take a 3-1 lead before Siena staged their comeback and won the final three matches.
UP NEXT
The Marist and St. John's match scheduled for next Tuesday the 17th has been cancelled. The Red Foxes will take the court again on Sunday, April 22 at home against Monmouth.
