POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist Men's tennis team will open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship play against Quinnipiac in the semifinals on Saturday, April 28th. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey.
On the other side of the bracket is first-seeded Monmouth and fourth-seeded Fairfield. If Marist were to advance, they would face either Monmouth or Fairfield on Sunday at 10 a.m.
LAST MATCH VS QUINNIPIAC
The Red Foxes and Quinnipiac battled in a close match on April 10th as the Bobcats eventually bested the Red Foxes, 4-3, in MAAC action. The doubles point was hotly contested as Quinnipiac and Marist both split from the first and second position. The match came down to the fourth singles position as Quinnipiac's Axel Stern and
Christopher Gladden battled back-and-forth. Stern came out on top after winning a tight first set 7-6 and then hitting pivotal shots in the second set to earn a 6-4 victory and clinch the match for Quinnipiac.
LAST MATCH VS MONMOUTH
The Marist men's tennis team dropped a hard fought match to the undefeated, Monmouth Hawks, 5-2, April 22nd at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. Monmouth took early control of the match winning all three of the doubles matches, 7-5, 6-3, and 6-4. The Red Foxes battled in singles play but ultimately fell to the eventual regular season champs.
LAST MATCH VS FAIRFIELD
The Marist men's tennis team picked up a tight but decisive 6-1 victory over the Fairfield Stags on April 13th.
Javier Restrepo had a solid straight set victory over Tyler Shibles, 6-1, 6-4 from the first position.
Rudolf Kurz battled to a 7-5 victory in his first set before cruising to a 6-1 win in the second. The Red Foxes' final singles win came from the fourth spot and
Lars Schouten, who won a very close first set 7-6 after trailing 6-5 before closing out Anthony Caputo 6-3 in the second set.
UP NEXT
A Win will propel the Foxes to the finals on Sunday where they will play the winner of Monmouth and Fairfield. A loss ends the Red Foxes' season.Â
