LeMay Finalist for Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award

The Sophomore is Recognized for her Team and Community Contributions

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Women's lacrosse sophomore Emma LeMay was named a finalist for the Yeardley Reynolds Love (YRL) Unsung Hero Award by the One Love Foundation. A prominent award in the lacrosse community, the award recognizes an athlete who makes a significant contribution to their teams and communities in ways that may not be measured in goals or saves. The winner is awarded a sum of money from the One Love Foundation to be given to their favorite charity.

LeMay tried out for the team last fall, demonstrating hard work, resilience and a positive attitude throughout the try-out. Her efforts left a big impression on both teammates and coaches alike. The sophomore was awarded a spot on the roster and became the first walk-on under Head Coach Jess Wilkinson's tenure.

"Over the last six months Emma still proves to be one of the hardest working, enthusiastic and selfless players." Said Head Coach Jess Wilkinson. "She's stepped into my office a few times, agenda and planner in hand, ready to jot down any notes coaches might ask of her to work on, even something she can help a teammate with. Her enthusiasm every practice is a reminder to her teammates that what we do is fun, and should be fun together."

LeMay has participated in numerous community service events as an athlete at Marist. She has participated in the Friends of Jaclyn Walk, Make a Difference Day Walk and Girl Scout Sports Sampler this year. LeMay painted and donated pumpkins and donated clothes to the children's home of Poughkeepsie and has visited and played with those children on numerous occasions. Before her sophomore year, LeMay studied abroad in Florence, Italy. Even while studying abroad, LeMay made sure to spend time giving back to the community, teaching Italian elementary students English once a week.

The One Love Foundation is the national leader in educating young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships and galvanizing them as leaders of change. The foundation was started in 2010 after Yeardley Love was killed by her ex-boyfriend.
