Women's Lacrosse Faces Canisius in MAAC Semifinal Round

The Red Foxes Take on #4 Seed Canisius in Their Opening Game

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York- Marist women's lacrosse opens up the semifinals of the MAAC tournament against 4th seed Canisius College May 3rd at 7:00 pm in Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes are the #1 seed going into the tournament.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Foxes met up with Canisius in their fourth MAAC game this season, falling 12-13. Marist got off to a fast start going up 3-0 early on. But the Golden Griffins went on a 6-0 run and would not relinquish the lead the rest of the game. Samantha Mehalick and Lauren Mazza each had three goals in the game while Delaney Galvin recorded 11 saves.

SCOUTING CANISIUS
The Golden Griffins are coming off a first round 17-7 win to Niagara. Jourdan Roemer is one of the top scorers in the MAAC with 47 goals on the season and 31 assists. Rebecca VanLaeken has been solid between the pipes, recording 213 saves on the season and has a .510 save percentage.

MAAC AWARDS
Samantha Mehalick earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week while Kelly George earned Rookie of the week. Mehalick had a career high eight goals and broke the single season goal record with her 60th goal of the season. George scored two goals and a career high five assists.

UNDER THE LIGHTS
This is only the second evening game the Red Foxes have played this season and will be the latest start time for a game. They previously played Yale at 6 pm earlier in the season. The last time Marist hosted an evening game was 2015 when they hosted Hofstra.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
Marist is 5-3 at home this season. In all five of the Red Foxes home victories, they have scored 14 or more goals and have won by a margin nine goals or more. Two of the three home losses came against teams that are ranked in the top 25 of the country.

LOOKING AHEAD
If the Red Foxes advance to the finals of the MAAC tournament, they will face the winner of the Fairfield vs. Monmouth game. The championship game will be held on May 5th at 1:00 pm.
