Red Foxes to Host Ivy League Foe

PISCATAWAY, New York – The Red Foxes will battle the Quakers at Tenney Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. Because of a late Rutgers cancellation, this is their first game since the tie with Fordham on September 12.

LAST TIME

The Red Foxes were three minutes away from their highest-ranked win in program history. Thanks to a goal from Allen Gavilanes in the 60th minute, Marist held the lead against the Rams on a rainy Tuesday night. Limiting Fordham to just a single shot in the first half, things appeared to be clicking for the squad as they took the lead and gained momentum.

However, in the 87th minute the 2017 "Elite 8" qualifying Rams found their way past Ryan Sinnott and tied up the score. As the match headed into overtime, Marist had multiple close attempts including a free kick from Samad Bounthong from just outside the goalie box, but they could not net the golden goal. Sinnott made a couple more great saves to keep the Red Foxes in the game and ended with four for the night.

SCOUTING PENN

The Quakers enter this game with a record of 2-1-2, having most recently tallied a 0-0 draw at Lehigh. Alex Touche has scored the game winning goal in both wins this season, both off of assists from Brandon Bartel. Goalkeeper Scott Forbes has posted three shutouts in five games, recording six saves in his most recent outing. Three players have scored for Penn this season, with Touche leading the pack.

A CHALLENGING SCHEDULE

As of September 20th, Marist men's soccer has the third hardest schedule in the nation, according to the NCAA Soccer Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). This is calculated by factoring in the opponents' records, along with the opponents' opponents' records. Having played squads such as Rhode Island (6-0-0), Saint Mary's College of California (8-0-0), and multiple ranked programs, Marist has matched up with some tough teams this season and will not see a break in the near future. The only schools with higher strengths of schedule are No. 3 Louisville and No. 7 Purdue Fort Wayne.

NEXT UP

Men's soccer will travel to Jersey City, N.J. on Wednesday, September 26 to play Saint Peter's. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
