POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's basketball team lost to Quinnipiac, 92-78, on Friday night in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at McCann Arena. The Bobcats led Marist 39-37 at halftime and pulled away in the second half, outscoring Marist 53-41.
- Senior guard David Knudsen converted a three-point attempt on the first possession of the game, and senior guard Brian Parker scores a layup on the next possession to gain an early 5-2 lead.
- Quinnipiac grabbed its first lead on a three-pointer by Rich Kelly at the 16:14 mark, which gave the Bobcats a 12-10 lead.
- In the first 16 minutes of the first half, neither team led by more than three points. Overall, there were nine lead changes and seven ties in the first 20 minutes.
- Three-pointers on back-to-back possessions by freshman guard Matt Herasme and Knudsen gave Marist its largest lead at 34-29 with 3:55 left in the first half.
- Quinnipiac answered with an 8-0 run, but senior forward Ryan Funk tied the score with a three-pointer with 27 seconds left in the first half. However, Quinnipiac's Cameron Young hit a layup on the final possession of the half, which gave the Bobcats a 39-37 lead after 20 minutes.
- Knudsen's layup on Marist's first possession of the second half tied the score at 39 apiece. However, Tyrese Williams converted a layup on the ensuing possession for Quinnipiac, and the Bobcats led the rest of the way.
- A 12-2 run, punctuated by a three-pointer by Young at the 10:08 mark, gave Quinnipiac a 62-49 lead.
- The Bobcats led by double digits for the final 11:10. Their lead reached as much as 18.
- Quinnipiac shot .545 (30-for-55) from the field and .469 (15-for-32) from behind the arc. The Bobcats shot .640 (16-for-25) from the field and .600 (9-for-15) from three in the second half en route to outscoring the Red Foxes 53-41 in the final 20 minutes.
- Marist shot .536 (30-for-56) from the field and .423 (11-for-26) from three-point range.
- Knudsen had a team-high 17 points to go along with four rebounds. He was joined in double figures in scoring by Parker (16 points) and Funk (13 points).
- Herasme grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and scored a career-high seven points.
- Young scored a game-high 29 points. He also contributed six rebounds and three assists. Rich Kelly added 22 points and four assists.
- Both teams' coaching staff participating in Suits & Sneakers, a Coaches vs. Cancer initiative. Marist head coach John Dunne wore a tie that was provided by Coaches vs. Cancer, and included basketballs and sneakers in its design.
- With four rebounds tonight, Parker now ranks in Marist's top five all-time in points (fifth – 1,640), assists (seventh - 346), and rebounds (10th – 562). The only other player in program history to rank in the top 10 in all three categories in Chavaughn Lewis.
- Knudsen let the Red Foxes in scoring for the second straight game. His two best scoring outputs of the season (21 at Manhattan, Jan. 18; 17 tonight) have occurred in his last two games.
- Prior to the game, Funk was presented with a commemorative basketball for scoring his 1,000th career point on Jan. 18 at Iona.
"You can't give up 54 percent from the floor, 47 percent from three, and 92 points and expect to win," Dunne said. "We just have to get better. … Cameron Young was a big part of that. They had him, and we didn't."
- Marist fell to 7-12 on the season and 2-5 in the MAAC.
- Quinnipiac improved to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in the MAAC.
