LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey - Marist men's soccer (7-7, 4-3 MAAC) earned their fourth win in five games by defeating Rider (6-6-2, 3-3-2) by a final score of 2-1. The Broncs scored the first goal of the game in the 75th minute, but
Allen Gavilanes tied it up minutes later and
Huib Achterkamp sealed the win in the final ten seconds.

- Through the first 20 minutes, the teams were equally matched with two shots, a shot on goal and a corner kick each.
- Neither team was able to score in the final 25 minutes of the first half, but Marist tallied five more shots with three on goal without allowing Rider to take even one.
- The scoreless game continued into the second half. Both defenses held strong, though the Broncs didn't record a shot for over 45 minutes.
- In the 75th minute, Rider's Olano Gomez found teammate Taner Bay who scored the first goal of the game.
- Just three minutes later, Allen Gavilanes blasted the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal on an assist from Stefan Copetti to bring the score to a tie.
- A Bronc defender committed a hand ball in their penalty box in the final ten seconds of the game, and Huib Achterkamp found the net once again on the penalty kick and earned the Red Foxes their fourth MAAC victory.
- Marist won the numbers game in shots 15-6, shots on goal 8-4, corner kicks 5-2 and fouls 9-12.
- Samad Bounthong and Gavilanes each recorded four shots with three on goal.
- Samuel Ilin made three saves, and Rider's Pablo Gatinois made six in the loss.
- Huib Achterkamp is now 5-for-5 on penalty kicks for the season, and is tied for the national lead in that category.
- The Junior leads the Red Foxes in points with 12 (6G), and is followed by Allen Gavilanes with 11 (3G, 5A) and freshman Stefan Copetti with 10 (3G, 4A).
- Marist has won four of their last five games, and now sit at fourth in the MAAC standings.
- This is the second game in a week that the Red Foxes have won in the final ten seconds.
"This group has proved to be resilient and they showed that character once again today," lauded head coach Matt Viggiano. "We are going to continue grinding and see where we end up in two weeks. I'm proud of them."

- Marist has three games left in the regular season, and will face MAAC #10 Monmouth on Wednesday, October 30.
- The Red Foxes travel to MAAC #2 Iona on November 2, and close out the season with MAAC #11 Canisius on November 6.
