POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -Â Marist men's soccer (8-7, 5-3 MAAC) defeated Monmouth (1-12-2, 1-6-1 MAAC) in double overtime on Wednesday evening. The Hawks had many opportunities on the offensive end, but goalkeeper
Samuel Ilin stopped every shot and kept the Red Foxes in the game for the eventual win.

- In the 35th minute, Monmouth had their best scoring opportunity. Liam McGregor fired a shot off a cross from midfield, but Ilin came out of the goal for the diving save.
- The game was scoreless at halftime, with the Red Foxes leading in shots 11-8 but the Hawks leading in shots on goal 6-2.Â
- Monmouth had looks in the 80th and 81st minutes on back-to-back corner kicks. However, the Marist defense was up to the task and quickly cleared the ball away both times to keep the game scoreless.
- The Red Foxes had a chance in the 90th minute when Allen Gavilanes was fouled just outside the penalty area. A trick play on the dead-ball situation led to an open shot for Gavilanes, but it just missed wide right.Â
- In the 95th minute, Sophomore Skylar Conway fired a rocket from the right side of the box, but it hit the post and bounced away.Â
- In the 102nd minute, Gavilanes passed the ball from the wing to freshman Stefan Copetti, who took a shot that was blocked. Gavilanes quickly pounced on the rebound and scooped it into the net for the win.Â
- Sophomore goalie Sam Ilin set a new career high with his 10th save in the 93rd minute.Â
- Copetti led the Marist offense with six shots, followed by Gavilanes with five.
- The Red Foxes outshot the Hawks 24-13, but Monmouth led in shots on goal 10-6.
- Marist has won five of their last six games, and are 6-2 at home.
- The Red Foxes maintain their spot at fourth in the MAAC standings, but can still finish as high as second.
- 10 saves are the most by a Marist goalkeeper since 2017, when Mark Rajovic stopped 10 shots against Quinnipiac.
The Red Foxes will face off with MAAC #2 Iona (10-4-1, 5-2-1 MAAC) on Saturday in a game that has massive seeding implications for the playoffs. The teams play on November 2 at 1 p.m.
